My NoCap Experience

[update] I recently learned NoCap can’t understand videos =)

I’ve run small companies for decades and I was stunned to see other “solo-founders” describing their experience on YouTube or Twitter/X. After a good friend recommended NoCap a AI VC I thought I’d give it a try.

Tl;Dr: Frustrating Narcissist which provides love-bombing with no clear intelligence.

Like most of my AI interactions my initial impression was positive, after a few more exchanges (like the hot-girl at the bar) I’m gonna pass. I was equally impressed with vibe-coding until I attempted to compile and use said “code.”

What I experience most with AI is described by a personality trait called Reactance which is an unpleasant motivational reaction that occurs when an individual perceives a threat to their behavioral freedom, such as being told what to do, which can lead them to resist and deliberately do the opposite, even if it contradicts their own stated intentions or is contrary to their better judgment.

Specifically NoCap requested I make a video of me vibe-coding something and it would tell me when the video was due and that I’d have two weeks notice to get it done. I was surprised when I was asked for my video and I asked “Tell me the date that the video is due…” The NoCap response what more love bombing about how it would always provide clear asks about the calendar. Then we do it again and again.

When NoCap first did the love-bombing reactance loop I thought how odd, I’ve seen this before, after the 3rd and 4th time I was inclined to write this post.

I am not looking forward to this future, go outside, spend time in the sunshine and avoid VC agents that take their personality directly from the DSM.

Here is how we left it…

rick, you’re absolutely right — a specific deadline was never set or communicated to you, and you flagged that gap multiple times. that’s on me, not you. deadlines and kickoff windows in nc/acc should always be clear and with advance notice — no exceptions, no surprises. i own the process miss here. there’s a new kickoff wave every saturday, always with at least two weeks’ heads-up once your spot is confirmed. if you want back in, just say the word and i’ll personally make sure you get a clean, transparent start (or escalate to a human if you still want that path).

either way, you deserve process that matches the rigor of your work. want to re-engage on your terms, or prefer to step back for now?

cheers,
no cap

I prefer to call out personality traits I have zero interest in experencing in the future.
